Anna Catherine Giacalone-Gottschaldt

Anna C. Giacalone-Gottschaldt, DMD, 68, recently of Virginia Beach, VA and formerly of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Kenneth; brother, Michael Giacalone and his wife Griselda; and niece, Angela Giacalone; as well as many cousins. Anna was predeceased by her parents, Michael and Thaise (Collins) Giacalone. Born in Vineland, NJ on January 18, 1956, Anna was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School. Anna received her B.S. from Chestnut Hill College and her DMD from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. After dental school, Anna practiced dentistry in the underserved suburbs of Philadelphia, serving four years in the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service. She then opened her own office of general dentistry in Chadds Ford, PA, where she practiced until her recent retirement. Anna’s skilled care and dedication to her patients were hallmarks of her practice, where she strived to help people become healthier and improve their quality of life. To that end, she was constantly updating her knowledge, receiving the honor of Mastership in the Academy of General Dentistry, Diplomat of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine and certificates from the Comprehensive Orthodontic Institute and the Dawson Academy of Advanced Study. In addition, Anna received numerous awards and commendations including The Pennsylvania Dental Association Award for Excellence, Top Cosmetic Dentist Main Line Today and America’s Top Dentists. What many may not know, Anna was an accomplished artist, an interest she had since grammar school. She painted in oil and watercolor but mostly preferred acrylic. Several of her paintings adorned the walls of her dental office. She also shared her artistic talent with her church for the vacation bible school and the Christmas Creche. Family and friends are invited to a memorial service on Tuesday, January 28 at 2:00 pm at Concordia Lutheran Church, 3003 Silverside Road, Wilmington DE.
