In Loving Memory

Daniel Douglas Halwe was born July 31, 1949 and died November 29, 2024 at the age of 75.  His younger brother William preceded him in death, and he is survived by his older brother Paul.  Dan was well educated with a degree from Northwestern and another degree from Washington University.  He was a life-long member of the United Church of Christ and had an extensive and eclectic knowledge of spirituality.  Dan was also a member of Independence Center, an organization serving people with mental illness (though those who knew him might say the only thing wrong with Dan were his puns).  He was a very social being and as a member leader, Dan helped train many collegue groups who came to learn the Clubhouse Model of rehabilitation as practiced at the Center.  Dan was a life-long learner with a passionate belief in the benefits of a whole food, plant-based diet.  In his later years, he got off of medications, and his sense of humor markedly improved.  Dan made an unflinching battle with esophageal cancer with the help of his brother Paul and others from Independence Center.  The way people came to say farewell to him as he was dying made an awesome testament to how well-loved he was.
