Doris Millard Williams
In Loving Memory
Doris Millard Williams died on November 5, 2017 following a lengthy illness. Doris was born in Mount Olive, NC to the late William Russell Millard and Betty Thornton Millard. She was preceded in death by her brothers, George Albert Millard and William Russell Millard, Jr, and her husband Isaac (Ike) Linwood Williams, Sr.
Doris graduated from Mount Olive High School and the Wilson School of Nursing where she studied to become a registered nurse. She completed additional coursework in nursing at the University of Pennsylvania and Duke University. She worked as a surgical nurse early in her career and later as a volunteer nurse with the Red Cross. Mostly, Doris was a mother to her children and a nurse to her extended family. She was always ready to help when someone was sick or recuperating from surgery. It was at these times that Doris was at her best, rising above the chronic pain that she endured despite undergoing multiple back surgeries. Doris also served as a volunteer in the Intensive Care Unit at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC, where she greeted and comforted families who were visiting their loved ones.
Doris is survived by a sister, Gwyndolyn Millard Brown of New Port Richey, FL; a son, Isaac “Ike” Linwood Williams, Jr. (Suzanne) of Greenville, NC; a daughter, Mona Williams Harris (Dillon) of Raleigh, NC; four grandchildren, and Samantha Lin Williams and Lauren Marie Williams of Greenville, NC and Dillon “Staton” Harris, III and Ansley Sheppard Harris of Raleigh; and several treasured nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held in the Log Cabin at First United Methodist Church in Cary, NC on Sunday, November 19. The family will receive friends in the Log Cabin beginning at 1:00 pm, and the service will immediatelyfollow.
If desired, memorial donations may be made to Transitions LifeCare (formerly Hospice of Wake County), 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607 or www.transitionslifecare.org.
