Emma Jean Glover
In Loving Memory
Emma Jean Carter-Glover, 80, of Sterling, Colorado, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 3, 2025. A private remembrance memorial will be held at a later date.
Emma was born on February 24, 1945, in Tonganoxie, Kansas. Her family later moved to Greeley, Colorado, where she attended middle school before settling in Denver. There, she attended East High School and went on to study at the University of Colorado in Fort Collins.
Emma was musically gifted—she played both the flute and the clarinet and loved to sing. She was also a proud member of the Glee Club.
After college, Emma returned to Kansas and married Ronald Glover. Following their divorce, she moved back to Denver, where she worked for Samsonite before becoming part owner of a maintenance company.
Emma had many passions. She loved horseback riding, was a member of a local rifle club, and spent much of her free time enjoying the mountains, fishing, singing, fixing things, gardening, and listening to music. A strong advocate for women’s issues, Emma lived her life with independence and conviction.
She dedicated many years to working with disabled adults at Dakota Quarters in Lakewood, Colorado, before retiring in 2005. In 2017, Emma and her longtime friend of 30 years, Avis Santos, purchased a home in Sterling, Colorado, where they shared nine peaceful years together enjoying rural life.
Emma is preceded in death by her parents, Constance E. Carter and Emory Petersen; her stepfather, Foster Carter; her brother, Emory Petersen Jr.; and her sister, Carol Petersen.
She is survived by her long time friend, Avis, sisters Ernestine Price, Patricia Carter and brother Michael Carter and four nieces.
