In Loving Memory
In Loving Memory of Jacob “Mike” Michael Bedlion Jr.
June 18, 1963 – December 23, 2025
With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of Jacob Michael Bedlion Jr., known fondly to all as Mike. Following a courageous three-year battle with stage 4 esophageal cancer and fighting to the very end —a journey he faced with his trademark of positivity and forward-thinking spirit—Mike transitioned peacefully into the arms of Jesus on December 23, 2025, at the age of 62.
Mike’s life was defined by his faith, his love for country, and a deep-seated desire to leave every space better than he found it. Born to Jacob Michael Bedlion Sr. and Trina Bedlion, Mike was the eldest of four siblings. His youth was a whirlwind of movement across the Northwest, filled with sports, adventures, and a blooming passion for the arts. Whether he was singing in jazz ensembles or taking center stage as Curly in Oklahoma! He had a voice and a personality that naturally drew people to him.
When he wasn't working or with family, Mike was usually lost in the world of a Louis L’Amour novel or watching a classic John Wayne movie. He didn't just enjoy these stories; he lived by the values they championed: honor, quiet strength, and the courage to "saddle up anyway" even when things were hard. Like the pioneers in his favorite books, Mike was a man of his word who believed in the importance of community and the dignity of hard work.
His heart for service led him to Ecola Bible College and later Multnomah Bible College, where he served as Chief of Security while deepening his faith. This foundation paved the way for four and a half years of dedicated ministry as the Youth Pastor at First Baptist Church in Lakeview, Oregon. Mike’s ability to mentor, encourage, and lead with wisdom left an indelible mark on the youth he served as well as his employers and colleagues.
Mike found a second calling in the world of community transportation, spending 25 years with MV Transportation. He wasn't just a manager; he was a visionary who believed that leadership was an act of love. He famously thrived in the energy of "start-ups," guiding teams to success with a management style rooted in genuine passion and human connection.
His patriotism was more than a sentiment—it was an action. Mike led a response transportation team during the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, and he was deeply honored to receive the "Patriotic Employer" award from the Secretary of Defense for his commitment to hiring Veterans and supporting the National Guard and Reserve.
Above all his professional achievements, Mike was a man who loved his family. He shared over 20 beautiful years of marriage with his wife, Wendy, building a life anchored in unconditional laughter, love, and support. He also maintained a lifelong bond and friendship with his first wife, Carol Rasmussen.
Mike’s legacy lives on through his five children: Joshua, Jacob, Kathryn, Benjamin, and Daniel Bedlion. He was the doting "Grandpa Mike" to Kaylin, Shayla, and Hayden. His heart only grew larger when it came to his stepchildren—Megan, Matthew, and Skyler—whom he loved as his own. He now joins his stepdaughter, Jessica Hoff (1977–2021), in heaven. His joy was further multiplied by his ten step-grandchildren: Ethan, Robert, Alex, Jack, Jacob, Ryan, Curtis, Kylie, Emry, and Celix.
Mike was a man of love, honor, humor, music, and perseverance. Even when times got hard, he chose joy. A celebration of his remarkable life is being planned for April or May, with details to be announced once travel and weather conditions permit.
As we remember him, we ask that you honor Mike by doing what he did every day: Try to make at least 10 people smile today, and have a great day. He will be greatly missed and forever remembered.
