Joan (Moley) Grom, age 75, passed away on August 3, 2025, in her hometown of Waukegan, Illinois. Born on March 3, 1950, also in Waukegan, Joan lived a life rooted in compassion, generosity, and unwavering love for those around her.
Joan was known to many simply as “Grandma,” a name that reflected not only her role within her family but also the warmth and care she extended to everyone she met. Her home was a haven—always open to anyone in need of a conversation, a warm meal, or even a place to rest. Her giving spirit was evident not just in what she offered but in how she offered it—with grace, sincerity, and an open heart.
She is lovingly remembered by her son Charlie Jr., (honorary mention Adrian and Meshelle) Her legacy continues through her grandchildren Corin, Ottis, Brandon, Trinity, Garner Jr., and Aaron; great-grandchildren Lucas, Mason, and Dakota. Joan’s extended family includes her brother Jimmy (Mary) and daughter Patty; great-niece Violet and great-nephew John; sister Karla (Laco) and their sons Tony and Ricky; brother David (Ruth), their daughter Rachael and son Jeremy and many others that called her auntie, grandma and family
Joan was preceded in death by her beloved husband Charlie Grom in 2023 ; her parents Charles Sr. and Dolores Moley; brothers Chucky and John; sister Lisa; grandson Cameron; and great-grandson Liam.
Her life was a testament to the power of kindness. Joan’s legacy is one of hospitality—a rare gift that made others feel seen, heard, and cared for. She touched countless lives with her generosity of spirit and left behind memories that will be cherished forever.
