Katherine Smith, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2025, at the age of 94. Born on December 27, 1930, Katherine lived a long and fulfilling life marked by love, strength, and kindness.
Katherine was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee and moved to Atlanta, GA in her early 20s, where her and her husband Levi, who proceeds her in death, began their family and was one of 22 children. Katherine, "Mama Kat" was a devoted mother to Twanda Smith Triplet (Sean), Steven (Rose) Smith, and Tanya Smith Moore (Dan). Their legacy continues with over 50 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Throughout her years, Katherine was known for her gentle spirit, unwavering faith, and dedication to her family. She took great joy in life’s simple moments—spending time with loved ones, sharing stories, tending her garden, and offering encouragement to everyone she met. Her compassion and wisdom touched the lives of many and will continue to inspire those who knew her.
Katherine is survived by her family and friends who will forever cherish her memory and the lasting impact she made on their lives. Though she is no longer with us, her legacy of love, grace, and resilience will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Private services will be held to honor Katherine’s life, one in Memphis and one in Atlanta. At Katherine's request, funeral arrangements are private with immediate family only. A memorial celebration will be held at a later date and her family invites friends and loved ones to celebrate her memory in their own special way.
