Larry Berlin
In Loving Memory
Lawrence “Larry” Berlin passed away on September 30, 2025, after a courageous battle with a prolonged illness. He was 75.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Berlin, who was his most devoted caretaker; his three children, Amanda Berlin (Seth Pokrass, Adam Feibish), Melanie Berlin (Dan Cavanaugh), and Michael Berlin (Charlotte Berlin); and his five beloved grandchildren—Lola, Jane, Ben, Sophie, and Emma—who brought him endless joy.
Larry was born in Brooklyn, New York, to Alex and Rose Berlin. After losing his mother at the age of three, he was raised by a devoted single father, loving grandmother Marcia, and doting aunt and uncle, Lee and Sidney Katz. He shared a lifelong bond with his brother Jim Berlin (Maddy) and his cousins Edward (Nancy) and Laurie Katz, who were like siblings to him.
Larry attended college in upstate New York, where he met Judy - they were married for 53 years. He started his career as a teacher for students with special needs. Soon after, he pivoted to a career in real estate and then mortgage lending. He owned his own mortgage company and served as a strategic advisor in the growth of other companies before becoming a financial advisor for the remainder of his career.
Larry had a dry sense of humor, a quick wit, a nimble mind, and an incredible recall for trivia, along with a deep passion for history and politics. He loved Scrabble on the beach, Jeopardy with dinner, a vodka martini, playing tennis, and cooking for his family.
He always offered practical advice and encouraged his family to take risks and trust themselves, knowing he always had their back and believed in them. With his grandchildren, Larry was happiest teaching them a game, going for a walk, or reading to them.
Larry was a man of integrity, a value epitomized in the line from a beloved book he read to his children: Horton Hatches the Egg. “I meant what I said and I said what I meant, an elephant’s faithful one-hundred percent.”
Larry’s legacy is found in his family and lifelong friendships he nurtured. His loyalty, humor, courage, and steady presence will be remembered and treasured by all who knew him.
A private family gathering will be held to celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, which Larry supported over the years.
