In Loving Memory

Mary (Mimi) Elizabeth Grover, born July 16th, 1929 in White Plains, NY, died peacefully at her home in Grass Valley, California at 11:00 p.m. February 17th.  Mimi was 95 years old at the time of her death and is survived by her five children, Eric Grover of Minden, Nevada; Gavin Grover of Orinda, California; Wendy Grover Rebmann of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Chris Grover of Menlo Park, California, Margot Grover of Brooklyn, NY as well as nine grandchildren; Margaret, Claire, Peter, Josslyn, Natalie, Mariah & Nina Grover; and Harper & Stella Baillie; and two great grandchildren, Max & Nora Leone.

In her later years Mimi enjoyed gardening at her home in Grass Valley, and as she became more sedentary told her daughter Wendy that she enjoyed looking out her window at the garden she had built. She often reminisced fondly about her time living abroad with her young children in Australia, during her marriage to George Grover, who pre-deceased her.

She loved classical music, especially Vivaldi. She spent many hours looking at photos of her great grandchildren, as well as her grandchildren and adult children. She kept a photo of her former husband of twenty years, George on the wall after he passed.

She enjoyed a glass of wine in the evenings and looked forward to lunches out with her adult children.

She was proud of her adult children’s professional accomplishments and took an interest in the lives of her many grandchildren. She was greatly affected by the accidental death of one of her grandchildren, Eliza Grover of Menlo Park, a year and a half ago.

She had a life long interest in color and modern design. She liked bright colors in her clothing and discovered a passion for painting in midlife.

In her college years at Antioch College, she studied theatre and was classmates with Rod Serling and Coretta Scott King. She stayed in touch with several lifelong friends from her years at Swiss boarding school and Antioch College.

She was one of the few women of her generation to attend college. After graduating from Antioch she worked as a speechwriter at the UN for the Iranian ambassador and also for a stint as a social worker. She eventually moved up to Poughkeepsie, New York with her husband George where she raised her children.

Later in life she taught English as a second language in San Diego, California. She also achieved a master's degree in library science at the University of Iowa and lived for some time in Maine before moving to Grass Valley, California where she remained settled for the last twenty five years of her life.
