Dr. Norman L. Ellenberg died on Jan. 28, 2026, at 98. He was born in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, on Oct. 15, 1927, to Henrietta (Tauber) and Syndey Ellenberg. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Florida in Physical Education. He received his Ed.D. from New York University while teaching sixth grade.
In 1969, he moved to Los Angeles, where he taught education at Cal State LA until his retirement in 1991. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Yurie Ellenberg; his brother, Philip Ellenberg (Adrien); three biological children, Amy Ellenberg Thurman, Rachel Ellenberg Schulson (Henry), and Andrew Ellenberg. He also leaves two stepdaughters, Linda Cano and Nancy Adkins (Tracey); nine grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
