In Loving Memory

Rae Katherine Neely Cook, age 84, passed away Monday, December 30, 2024.

Rae was born to John and Helen Neely.  She later went to live with her uncle and aunt, James D. and Mary Asher.  They raised her as their own along with their three sons James D. Asher Jr.(Norma), Kenneth Asher (Iris), and Benjamin Asher (Sharon), who have survived Rae.  She is also survived by her children William Henry Cook Jr.(Carrie) and Marynell Singleton(Stephen), grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Rae grew up in Decatur and graduated from Southwest Dekalb High School.  She married her husband on January 30, 1965 and had two children.  The family moved to Covington, GA in the early seventies and Rae has remained active in that community until her passing.

Rae loved to read, garden, collect dolls, sew, and spend time with family and friends.  She was an excellent seamstress and loved to grow iris.  Rae and her husband were members of Newton Hayriders Square Dance Club and both loved the fun and camaradarie they had with their fellow square dancers.  Rae was an active attender at Bethany Presbyterian Church and loved her church family.  She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  At one time she was a member of the Red Hat Club.  She was a member of the Salem Volunteer Fire Department's Women's Auxillary for many years until the volunteer fire department disbanded.  She was very involved in her high school's (Southwest Dekalb) alumni events including monthly luncheons and reunions.  Rae's last place of employment was at Georgia Bureau of Investigation where she retired.

Rae was a people person.  She had a wit and sparkle about her that drew people to her.  She was kind and gracious to all and gave the best hugs of anyone.  She was known for her hugs at her Neely family reunions.  She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.
