In Loving Memory

Roland Lloyd Crapo I, a beloved son, brother, grandfather, father-in-law, and friend died suddenly and unexpectedly on June 6, 2026.

Born in New Hampshire to the late Harold and Katherine Crapo, Roland grew up exploring the rural countryside of Coös County. Those early years sparked his lifelong love of the outdoors and nurtured the adventurous spirit that stayed with him throughout his life.

After enlisting and serving in the U.S. Navy, he eventually settled in Connecticut where he built a life rooted in family and hard work.

Roland was remarkably smart, kind, and endlessly inquisitive — the sort of person who was always ready to share his knowledge or lend a hand. Blessed with a wide range of interests, he could hold a conversation on nearly any topic. He truly became the kind of man who could fix anything, build anything, and talk to anyone.

A true inventor and craftsman, Roland created and patented two types of stepping AC voltage regulators while working at Superior Electric Company. His passion for creating extended into his home life, where no project was off-limits. He built everything from simple to complex - from a heated outdoor cat condo for the stray cats he loved, to a two story barn and garage. Roland continued to share his love of building and problem-solving with others through his business, ProClean Restoration & Home Improvement.

Roland spent his life in motion, and he inspired those who chose to be around him to do the same. He embraced adventures across every New England season, finding joy in camping, cycling, hiking, rock climbing, shooting, riding his Indian Motorcycle, and skiing down Mohawk Mountain in his signature ski boots.

Driven by his desire to connect with others, Roland was an active member of the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) and held his pilot license for single engine planes. His ham radio allowed him to build friendships across the country, and his enduring love for the skies led him to begin building his own airplane!

Roland will be remembered as unfailingly friendly and outgoing, someone whose enthusiasm for life was contagious. Whether he was tinkering in his workshop, experimenting with a new invention, or encouraging someone to join him on his latest excursion he approached every day with genuine joy. He had a rare gift for making people feel welcome and for finding happiness in the doing — not just the destination. His passion for life showed through both his words and his actions.

Roland is survived by all those whose lives were brightened by his warmth, touched by his generosity, sparked by his adventurous spirit, encouraged by his enthusiasm, and inspired by his refusal to slow down.
