Salvador Cano Rubio

Modesto, CA

In Loving Memory

Salvador Cano Rubio went to be with the Lord, December 9, 2024. He was 74. Born on December 23, 1949. He passed peacefully in his sleep soon after having a massive stroke, surrounded by his family and friends at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto, CA.

Sal was born in Jalisco, Mexico to Gregorio Venegas Rubio and Andrea Huerta Cano (Rubio). But at a very young age moved to Patterson, CA where he enjoyed roaming Frank Raines Regional Park all his childhood days and the freedom his bike gave him as a teenager. He went to Modesto Junior College and graduated to become an Auto Body Technician. Being outstandingly talented already, he became very skilled in automotive painting and frame work.

He enjoyed racing at the 99 Speedway in Stockton, CA for many years with the #19 in the hobby division, proudly winning many trophies.

Throughout his life, in Modesto, CA, he opened his own businesses including, Quality Auto Body, Sal-va-DOORS and Eros Customs & Designs with his son Joel, where they built custom cars together.

You would have caught him listening to his AM talk radio or the oldies station, claiming that it was the only good music. He frequented the Friday night events at the A & W on H St. and every morning would meet up with friends at McDonald's for his morning coffee for many years.

He was a quiet and humble man who was always willing to help if he saw it was needed. Even so far as carrying a gas can around in case someone was stranded on the side of the road. He is fondly remembered and is missed by many.

Salvador is preceded in death by his mother, father, step father Thomas, his brother David, his grandson Kodiak and his dog Luffy.

He is survived by his siblings; Martin, Angie, Jessie, Robert, Alicia, Eva, Emily, Thomas, Ofelia and Arturo. His first wife Ester (Enero), their children Anthony and Angela (Holtham). His two children with Mary Zapata with their children Philip and Priscilla and their families. His second wife Charlene (Freer) and their children Cherish (Roddick), Joel, Jerod and her sons Jonathan and Joshua, as well as his several grandchildren.

A celebration of life to honor Sal will be held on January 19, 2025 at the Oakdale Event Center in Oakdale, CA at 1pm. Event info found on Facebook. In lieu of flowers and donations, the family requests donations be sent to Modesto Gospel Mission.
