Suzanne Kathryn Mitchell (née Blackburn), born January 17, 1939, in South Bend, Indiana, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2026, in Greensboro, North Carolina, following a battle with lung cancer.
Born to Howard F. and Velva Blackburn, Suzanne spent her formative years in South Bend before moving to Morningside, Maryland, with her first husband, Gary Elliott. She later settled in the Washington D.C. area before making Arizona her home for the majority of her life.
In Phoenix, Suzanne was a devoted wife to her beloved husband of 37 years, Curtis Mitchell, who preceded her in death in June 2023. Together they created a home filled with love, play, and laughter.
Suzanne was always quick with a smile. She was known for her cute outfits, bedazzled clothing, frugal shopping habits, spunk, and pragmatic wisdom. She positively touched the lives of all who knew her.
She is survived by her two sons, Douglas Elliott of Stokesdale, NC, and Brent Elliott of Mechanicsville, VA; as well as her cherished grandchildren Elijah, Riley, and Makenna.
A private celebration of Suzanne’s life will be held at Heritage Greens Independent Living in her honor.
